The Fire That Finds Us

Jun 8, 2025    Rev. Monty C. Wright

On this Pentecost Sunday, we're reminded of the transformative power of the Holy Spirit. The book of Acts describes a pivotal moment when the Spirit descended like tongues of fire, empowering the disciples to speak in various languages. This event wasn't just a historical occurrence; it's a promise for us today. The prophet Joel's words come alive as we realize that the Spirit is poured out on all people - regardless of age, gender, or social status. This divine equalizer breaks down barriers and invites us all into a deeper relationship with God.

As we reflect on this, let's ask ourselves: Where in our lives do we need a fresh wind of the Spirit? Have we disqualified ourselves from this empowerment? The fire that fell at Pentecost still burns, and it's looking for kindling in our hearts. Let's open ourselves to this transformative power and allow it to ignite our faith and purpose.
